Help! New tile - radiator now too high
Here's my embarrasing problem... We just retiled the bathroom, including a slight build-up of the subfloor.
Unfortunately, the radiator (at floor level) is now too high to connect to the angled steam valve (we have a one pipe steam system). The vertical offset from the side pipe of the radiator to the angled valve fitting is about 1". There is a very small amount of play in the feed pipe but not 1".
Is there a fitting I can buy to move the 1-1/4" angled valve up vertically by 1"? Do long stem valves exist? All I can think of is cutting the radiator feet down by an 1".
Any help is most appreciated!0 -

Get a
Carbide tipped hole saw just right to cut a hole through the tile and set the radiator down into the old floor. Clearence under the rad is needed! Set the raditor in the acurately drilled holes and grout the feet in. Connect where it was. If your careful and take your time this may the best way out of a tough spot. You may even find a diamond hole saw that'd work. You only use the centering bit untill you get a ring started thru the tile. Water cool the bits and take your time!0 -
longer nipple
I was able to remove the vertical nipple from the elbow below. I had access to the elbow. I just used a 1" longer nipple and re-assembled.0 -
Similar problem
I ordered a 1" nipple extension (a coupling with male and female threads)it raised the valve the perfect dimension. I did have to cut off the old valve I wasn't able to unthread it without disturbing the joint under the floor.0 -
I ****-U-&ME'd
You wanted to not NOT disturb the piping at all! The nipple extention is another route.
It does however require careful cutting off of the valve from the pipe (do not nick the pipe threads) and a new valve being placed there. Not to mention the tail piece into the radiator, which is another story for the diy.0 -
thanks!
Thanks for the help. The 1" nipple extension piece seems like it might be the best way to go - if it will work.
Thanks again.

The Dead Men
sometimes referred to nipple extenders as "pipe stretchers".....0
