Does anyone have an Economite E20A conversion burner manual? It has a tag on it saying it was installed in 1980. Can you help me, the motor is starting to squeak.

Google Economite E20A Manual. Looks like there are several sources for that manual that can be downloaded.

That is a special motor- it contains a centrifugal switch that holds the gas valve closed until the motor gets up to speed. Might be hard to find.

The E20 is not a flame-retention burner, but an evolution of the LoBlast burners that Midco sold in the 1940s and 1950s. My experience with it is that unless it is installed in a boiler with a long narrow firebox, the flame will slam the back of the firebox, which can result in poor combustion and high carbon monoxide. In such a case, I like to replace the E20 with Midco's EC-200/300 unit, which will fit the same mounting flange as the E20 and give much better combustion.

What boiler is your E20 installed in?

That motor has oil cups on it and can be lubricated. Also make sure the squirrel cage is clean. I have all the manuals on all the E-20's ever made. E-mail me and I will send you a copy based on model and serial number of your unit. E-mail is gastc@cox.net.

The only name I could find on the furnace is Hercules L-618. It was converted from Oil to gas in the 80's.

The instructions went out in the mail today. Locally E-20 parts in the past were handled by

    R. L. Gourley
    80 Felton Street
    Waltham, MA 02154

    Phone 866-309-2680

Not sure if there is anything around for Midco E-20's.
