This is something everyone should see, not just steam people.

We replaced this old Columbia boiler almost two years ago with a Burnham MegaSteam. Today we serviced it, and the owners told us the new boiler and upgraded piping resulted in a one-third reduction in the amount of oil they burned. And this was before correcting for the much colder winter we had last year!

See, it CAN be done, WITHOUT an expensive and risky hot-water conversion!

    That's awesome! 1/3 of total usage...... 900 gal? 1500gal?

Just think that's one system. How many out there still guzzling away.

If we could just all believe that saving a few gallons of oil , CF of NG, few gallons of LP. One system at a time..........Gee where did I hear that?

It's a good-sized house, and they were using some 1500 gallons over the course of a season. Last year they only used 1000. The place needs to be tightened up- then we'll see more savings.

Chris most people just don't know so long as they have heat. Until it turns their wallet inside out, or they no longer have heat.........And the right contractor to fix it.

What are the chances, a music lover such as yourself would provide 33 1/3 % savings to a customer?

    The Boss would be proud.

On a larger scale a conversion from a Carlin oil burner on a steam system in a large church. The boiler was an HB smith steam boiler. I installed a gas/oil Powerflame burner which has run on gas for three years and cleaned up problems in the system that had existed for years. The last year the boiler was on just oil it cost $18,000 for the year. We have seen a drop in operating costs for the last three years to around $7,000 to $8,000. Just takes a little effort and proper set up with a combustion analyzer.

    Impressive, guys!

We wouldn't need fracking if we could do this in every building.........

The whole fracking thing is crazy.

I added NG to my house last year this time. My house in Nj was all electric with a heat pump. Stove was the original from 1978 and we had a new 50 gallon electric hot water heater.
I installed a Combi boiler and a gas stove. Summer time my electric bill is down about $30-40 a month.
Saving about 100-150 a month January February and March.

    Outstanding work!

They might be approaching 40% reduction in fuel use per heating degree day, considering the record cold temps last winter.

This is what actually matters -- more specifically BTU's per heating degree-day -- especially with conversions.
