We recently moved from NYS to Florida and I now find myself in charge of a HVAC unit unlike the separate furnace and window A/C units we had in NY. In NY we also had a full house automatic stand by generator, but find we can not afford the prices they demand here in Jacksonville. We opted instead for the largest portable generator we could find (15k), which was about 1/4 the cost of a 16k standby here in Jax. So my question is, do both the heat and A/C circuits need to be fed by the generator for the A/C to work. I do know that if I kill the power to the heat, the circulation fan will stop. I'm wondering if I could run the fan on a separate ,switchable 110 circuit for the fan and only run the 220 A/C circuit off the generator. During hurricane season we would only have use for the a?c anyway. Your thoughts?
