Was just getting started. We stared using wood stove and I have no basement so would not be a good thing for hydronic heat. So I wanted to heat water in my wood stove ahead of my water heater. So my dad told me how to make a coil with 3/8 in copper tubing and put it just above the firebox . I got an old electric water heater somebody stopped using I put it up in attic took the 3/8 copper from my stove to the old 40 gallon WH in attic and on real cold days by time to take baths we had 40 gallon of water 200 degrees and if we didn't use we have dumped it down the drain. So when I retired I knew I could not cut wood for ever. So I started creating my own heating system. it is something I kind of created as I went along and after I got it all made up over a few years I thought I would redo the wiring on zone valves and pumps to make it all the same but I had to have someone help me . My son came to help me get it all going again now I have made some plans on how I done things. OK that's al

  • I just signed in yesterday I am 77 years old I helped my dad install hydronics heat in our old farm house . Used a propane gas boiler then he made a fire box for wood beside the gas boiler connected together. My uncle was a full time licensed plumber at that time he was taking out coal furnaces. So dad got a draft vent off a coal furnace and put it on his wood furnace and used the draft system off the coal furnace on his wood furnace addition Back then he thought it worked best to have a one inch main line around as we went along at the same time we were putting in the baseboard heaters and we used monaflow tees which scoops up a 1/2 in. out of the one inch line up through the base board heater gpes to othe end and drops it back into one inch line. My dad worked At Allis Chalmers And I came to Caterpiller he worked 30 years at Allis retired I worked at Cat. 30 yrs. retired . Since I retired I moved here in 1967 live here 51 years won't let me finish OK got lot more to say Thanks
