You can do either method, but I prefer the cutting method. I feel more in control that way.
The replacement nipples are readily available. If you are doing ALL nipples and dropping the drum, the standard nipples will work. If you aren't, there are weldable 2 piece nipples available. Keep in mind, if 1 or 2 nipples are rotted, the rest are probably getting there.

    old boiler with rotted nipples on bottom.I know the pipe is going to collapsewhen I put a pipe wrench on .Usually cut it out and carefully cut inside the pipe with lots of heat.Will the internal pipe wrench work . Customer selling building ,heard that for five years .Any suggestions

    Another job that brings back painful, dirty memories. And not dirty in the good way, either.

    Those drums are heavy.

    Will start project.These are coal converted to oil .carlin 801 on #1,and bekett cf 8000. Owners anxious to sell.1000 gal a week 4 story building built in 1922.
