Hot / Cold Fluctuations

Plumbing issue: I maintain a resort which includes a building that is well over 100 years old and has the problem of when one shower is in use, the other shower loses pressure and hot water. It doesn't seem to be affected by a flushing toilet. Ideas on how to remedy? By the way, thanks to Rocky for the advice on the in-floor heat knocking issue.

    what is the

Pressure in the building? are the pipes properly sized? and is this happenening all over?? but I would agree that pressure balancing shower bodies would help, but if your running 40 pounds psi, you might still lose hot water as there is a pressure drop through the coil or hot water heater. if you are running very low water pressures, then maybe a skid mounted pressure booster system might work well, these are a few ideas to look into. but have a reputable plumber come in and check

Hmmm, resort huh? Any chance there are thermostatic mixing valves being used for anti-scald protection? Have run into that before, whoever put them in never put check valves in. Now the valves do have rubber check valves built in, but they don't last long. Just a thought.

there is a retrofit balancing valve

that can be put in-line without pulling out the shower valves. The other blogs pretty well say it all

    think we need more info..

are the showers in question back to back? what is the water piping made of? 100 years old, is it steel? what do you mean by pressure loss? just hot water? cold too? losing pressure in shower B, when shower A is running sounds like a possible occluded pipe....just a thought..oh, the others are correct in their desire for pressure balance and or thermostatic valves...but being a resort i'd hope they are already in.
