raising a 2\" steam main for a doorway

I've got a customer who wants to raise about a 4' section of his steam main to allow for a walk through with-out being a head knocker. Can this be done similar to the picture on page 95 in "The lost art of Steam heating" where on either side of the rise, I drop down under the floor, but halfway up or so I put a tee (sized to the return)and gravity drain to the existing wet return???Can this work without any added steam traps or check valves??
What do ya think?? Hopefully there is an attachment with this.

If that's the one with the I-beam

you may only need half of that piping. As the main approaches the door, it will jump up to go over the door and you'll put in a drip to take care of the condensate. But if you can run your drip to a wet return, you don't need to have it come up into the bottom of the main on the other side.

    I Beam

yes, that's the one. Ok, I can understand what your saying. As long as the main is properly pitched, I should only need the condensate on the leg that goes up. That will work great, thanks

    It's either that,

or you'd have to "notch" the concrete floor to "bury" the condensate cross-over piece.

Steamhead, as usual (:-o), is directly and completely "on the money."
