When is it advisable to use 1 or 2 steam risers from the boiler to the header?
Boiler in question is a Burnham 904. The tappings are 4".

I read the manual cover to cover. 90% of the content is about hot water boiler piping.
  • The information

you are looking for is on or about Page 35 of the Installation Manual and is entitled Figure 34. We only call for a single riser on that size boiler and that should be 4" as well as a 4" header. The equalizer and return needs to be 2". Hope this helps.

    Glenn, its because

you guys in the factory end allow one riser that people will use one riser..two is better and everyone knows it..we end up going out and fixing problems cause the boilers were only plumbed out one side..we fix it by plumbing from both sides..wait a minute..thats a good job for us...never mind..

I won't argue a bit that more is probably better, but in reality one riser, properly piped and sized, is suffice for the smaller size boilers to deliver the steam to the system mains sufficiently and effeciently.
