Insulate Fittings?

Should steam pipe fittings (unions, tees, elbows, etc.) be insulated? Most of the photos I see here on the Wall do not have the fittings insulated. If they should be insulated, can anyone suggest something less expensive than molded insulation?

    Ideally

Its what you want to do. Ive seen people wrap their own pipe with fiberglass and duct tape. Have also seen ridgid pipe insulation mitre cut and taped at the seams. The latter works nicely if you take your time. I guess it all depends on what you want it to look like. Good luck.

Going through that right now myself....

... bought lots of rigid FG insulation, am now installing it across our rather complicated manifolds and having a heck of a time to make it look good. With a long-bladed, sharp utility knife and a lot of patience, you can do it...

Hey Tommy, how is the leg coming along?
