I'd like to suggest another source of old books. Try "addall.com". It searches lots of other used book search engines; sort of one stop shopping. You'll find books by Frederick Dye and John Tyndall; great teachers of plumbing and physics. Their work is nearly as good as that of Dan H!

    Over my head

    Think i have posted this twice...oh well. I have read many of the Q and A here. Some of you guys really know your stuff,i like that. But i am afraid i am somewhat over my head. i live in montreal canada where many old and new systems still exist. have no trouble with the minor stuff but have been stump on major things. i work with a wonderful old jewish guy(83 yrs old and still going strong) it is great working with him. he has stories that are great to listen to from his early days and from the days of the WW2 when he was in a camp. But i would like to expand on this. So does any one know a computer course or another source that can help me out. I have a few of Dan's books...some of it is sinking in. I like to leave a job knowing i have done well. And if it is something that I am not sure of well...old man Schwartz is a phone call away and he can figure most things out. But it is my turn to carry that torch so if any one can point a way please do.

    the best old-book-finder site I've seen is one from the Great White North-

    I've bought a bunch of books from this site, never had a problem. Last time I was on there, I saw some Canadian versions of the Ideal Fitter catalog- one is called the Sirdar-Ideal Fitter and a later one is Dominion Ideal Fitter. Some of my earliest acquisitions were the American versions of these books. You'll love them.

    If you can understand how the dead men circulated water and achieved decent system balance with nothing more than the difference in weight of water at different temperatures and how they managed to keep steam and water co-existing in the same pipe while moving different directions, the new stuff is almost mundane...

    And if you keep some of their old ways in mind when piping new, those who come after you will likely appreciate the thoughtful way you piped the system for convenient service.

    The old "Question and Answer" books by R. M. Starbuck are especially informative.

    thanks......got the web address for a couple of sites now. have already seen the sites and they look pretty good. will have to start getting more books...after Christmas...the kids come first(then the credit card company,hehe)
