Starting at 1:58 AM last night

I had over 400 virus laden e-mails! Most with return addresses from people who post on The Wall, including more than a dozen from the mailroom here. If you receive any e-mails - do not open the attachment - that contains the virus.

199 of them slipped past McCaffee, possibly due to the flurry of e-mail, which may have overloaded its ability to screen. Quite a shock to log on and see that you've gotten that many e-mails overnight!

    Spoofed \"From\" Addresses

The way I understand it is, the virus grabs contact lists, and randomly picks one to be the "From" address. Then it starts sending itself out automatically, with the spoofed address as the sender. They're almost never actually from the person listed as the sender.

    Not one...

As you will notice, I don't list my full e-maill address under the E-mail address box. I also rarely if ever use MS for sending e-mails. I use web based e-mail servers like hot mail.com. I didn't get even one viral e-mail.

    ME
  • likewise for me

Not a single one. Not on any day. Nice safe protection.

I also don't use the address book. It's empty, no entries at all.

    I haven't had one either,

and my address book is crammed full. You must have a virus program(VirusScan) and a SpamKiller. Also, very important, if you're using Windows XP, turn on your Firewall Protection, it's built in.

    Got it

    Firewall and spam.

All 372 infected e-mails were caught in my spam protection.

    Just deleted two more.

I wish I had the free time the idiots that write these things have.

    Nerd

I read that one of the contributors to the virus is an 18-year-old living with his parents in their apartment who said he has no job and about $3 to his name. The loser obviously had enough time on his hands to ruin thousands of hardworking Americans' hard drives. I understand that the legal system is beefing up sentencing for these hacker losers and this punk could get up to 10 years in jail. I'd say, let him spend 10 years without a computer or his favorite pastime, video games. That'll teach him.

    Federal judges are

passing out extremely severe fines, penalties and jail time for audio-video piracy, computer hacking and copyright violations. The FTC and the current administration have had enough of the BS and people stepping all over someone's rights and these lawless acts are not helping the American economy, FACT! Nail'em HARD, they truly deserve it!!!!
  • There oughta be a law

similar to the telemarketing that if you do not want information coming into your computer then any one doing so should be fined.

With all the security I have on my computer things still somehow get in. The worst of which is advertising for porn, which I did not ask for nor do I have any interest in.

With all the protection to keep things we do not want our children or grandchildren subjected to it still finds its slimy way in. My computer service company says that these hackers and computer "nerds" will always find ways around security and systems to block them out.

I remember a few years back one of them was able to get into the Pentagon files. If they can do that with all their security the rest of us do not have a chance.

I keep my office door locked so my wife and grand kids will not be shocked or insulted by some piece of garbage that may find its way in.

We have taken freedom of speech and expression to far, the very liberty we all enjoy has come back to haunt us.

Trying to get some work done on the computer and having popups come in every so often and interupt what you are doing is the least of it. It seems it is getting worse. My computer company is coming out to put in a whole new security system maybe it will stop this mess.

I had a full McAfee system and it did not keep everything out so I went to Norton and it is a little better but nothing will stop someone who wants to get in. This new system that they are going to try has worked in their own computers so we will see what happens.

I have a friend who works for the FBI and he tells me that the porn industry has some of the best computer people in the world working for them, I guess they can afford it. Porn is one of the largest and most lucrative busineses in the world.
