    Labor cost for radiant heating

Looking for help pricing the labor for all types of radiant heating. Have not spent any time installing this and now have decided to branch out. I dont want to overcharge or give away any time. Is there a square foot price or a lineal foot price that could be applied? Plaese Help. MP

Absolutely the first thing you must do

is get "knowed up" on how to install it. Pay attention to this site, and go to every class and seminar on radiant that you can find, no matter who the manufacturer is. You will learn new ideas and techniques at each one. When you have learned enough to start installing it, you will also know how much to charge.

It's not a good idea to be talking dollar and cents prices here.It is really very little help anyway as my overhead and yours may be very different.

You need to come up with some time factors for installing it,than plug in your own hourly costs.

Every house is different but some starting guidlines may be close.Tie down radiant=200 linear feet per man hour,Installing track=25 pieces of 4' track a man hour,Installing tube in track 100 lf per man hour. These are just estimates and may vary depending on the job.And I'm sure your first job will take longer.Sometimes you just gota get your feet wet.

    What is your loaction

that also is a factor. What Boiler, controls, zones,.......
a sq/ft price is a real bad quoting practice. Make sure you know what you are doing before you do your first job!
The right rep. can realy be helpfull!

There is no such thing as a sqft price on anything regarding heating. Same with A/C A guy just asked me "What's your price per ton?" Huh? who would do that!!! what kind of system? what kind of house? how hard to wire? what kind of plaster ? what type of difuser? add on? Fully ducted? Unico? Mitsubishi? price per ton or sqft sure ok ,Ummmm how much does a car cost? bag of groceries? bottle of wine? kitchen remodle? you get the idea....

    Another step

would be to spend some time crunching YOUR numbers to make sure you hourly rate is accurate. This is not a one size fits all number, it has to be built around your specfic company.

With this, in hand, start tracking labor hours on various jobs to get a handle on costs, and bid methods.

Plenty of good books available here at the Books and More department. All your trade and business answers are in those pages.

A good numbers cruncher demo is available here. developed by a NJ plumber it gives you a good start on collecting the data to develop an accurate rate.

    Labor costs for radiant

Are the same as any other work you do. KNOW THINE OVERHEAD. The first commandment of businessesof all types everywhere. There are simply to many methods of installation, to many types of systems, to many different skill levels and on and on........ To even think about quoting someone a sq or lineal foot price. If all homes were identical, all people wanted the same thing, everyone had the same budget and all systems had the same brand/pricing of components then, yes you could quote a flat fee. Until that happens though, we just have to figure it out ourselves.
