humming

I hope you can help me. I have a hot water heating system in my house, and recently replaced the termostat upstairs with a programmable one. My house has zoned hot water heat, and I wanted to lower the temp upstairs while at work.

Since doing this, the system hums occasionaly. At first, the humming was from the boiler itself, and filled the whole house with sound. Recently, the humming is happening more just in the upstairs pipes. When I check the system in the basement, the control valve is humming like mad. When I turn the termostat to the "off" position, the humming stops. When the boiler kicks in, the humming stops.

Is there an easy adjustment for this? I have switched thermostats to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your help.

    Suggestion

Re-connect the old t-stat and see if the humming goes away.

If so, the new t-stat is incompatible or you installed it improperly.

If not, either something has failed in the system or problems from above have destroyed a component.
