Leaky pipe at site of bracket

I am a novice.
I have a gas heating system.
I have this leaky pipe, at the point of some bracket, in the heating system that been leaking for years and now its getting worse. The pipe is near the basement ceiling.

What could this be?
If appropriate, what would the price range of fixing this? I just don't want to be ripped off.

Steven

Thanks in advance
Steven

Could that "bracket" be some type of leak repair clamp? Maybe there's a rubber liner that has deteriorated. You could try to replace that clamp with a new repair clamp.

We assume that this is steam??
This was a band-aid installed some time ago.

We do not talk pricing here.

Is the pipe enclosed in a soffit of some sort?
Can you see the fittings in either direction?

@JimP thanks for responding. It was like that when I moved in 20 years ago. I am not equipped to do it my self. I guess I’ll look for a plumber.

@JUGHNE thanks. It is a steam system. It is in a soffit but I could try to see what the fittings are.

Where would I go to get an idea of price?

Try calling a few plumbing or HVAC companies,  maybe they can give you a ballpark estimate.  Pricing varies by region and isn't discussed here.

From the mechanic who knows how to do the repair properly. That pipe (and hanger) should probably be replaced.

    What does the hanger mean?

If there's serious corrosion of the steam pipe, it should be replaced.

    @stevenM

Most will not quote a price for a job like that. It's a T & M job and does have to be fixed.
