No idea what this is or what it does!

Hi all, I’m wondering if someone can tell me what this is, what it does, if I can keep it going or if I should have it replaced and with what! The house was built in 1940. Thank you so much.

    it's a stove for heat , Wood or coal , looks like wood ..
    I have enough experience to know , that I dont know it all

    And a rather good quality one, at that. Check the stovepipe, check the chimney and be nice and warm. Even looks as though the clearances are OK.

    On further reflection, if you really truly honestly didn't know what it was, I would suggest finding someone local who does know about wood stoves to show you how to use it, and what kinds of wood to use, and that sort of thing. It's not plug and play...

    That Kohn name comes up as a British or German brand of stove.
    You might want to get a chimney sweep to check it over. Clearances and base construction doesn't look to be current code compliant.
