Gil Carlson used to say, "A difference to be a difference has to make a difference." He also said, "What you save on the meat, you spend on the mashed potatoes." That one always gave me pause.

My father used to say, "Heating the best business in the world because everyone needs heat. Especially in the winter." Which made total sense then and now.

I've been known to say, "When you do something stupid you will always receive a reward, which leads you to do things of greater stupidity."

Your turn.

Retired and loving it.

I worked with 2 guys a lot and they each had their own outlook on helping newbies...
    One was

"no such thing as a stupid question, if your not sure... ask"

The other guy liked to say

    "stupid questions for stupid people"

On slow days I liked to call the "other guy" and ask stupid questions just to make his day.. guess i'm an instigator :)

How about this one; there may not be enough time to do it right but there is always enough time to make it right. This is what I always said to my boss since he rarely told customers the truth. "If you always tell the customer the truth, you never have to remember the lie you told them. Once they catch you in a lie, they will never again believe what you tell them.

When we were younger, working on aircraft, my co-worker and I were tasked with replacing the captain's sliding window on an MD-88. My co-worker looked at the three pages of instruction and said "Blah-Blah-Blah-we don't have time to read this." and tossed it over his shoulder. four hours later, still struggling with the window, I picked up the instructions and on the first step, it said "remove protective-something or other". He flipped the window upside down and said "oh". the window slipped right in and we were done.

He turned to me and said: "you know? you will always find the time to read the instructions after you screwed up".

That quote stayed with me for thirty years!
