I thought we could all use a laugh today, so I'm bringing back this post. Got any good stories? What's the best joke you've ever played or had played on you?

When I was living in a college dorm, I came back to my room and all my stuff was gone, bed, desk, computer, posters, like the room had never been lived in. My immediate reaction was panic, and then I got mad. My roommate is sitting there smiling and played dumb. I backed out and walked down the hall towards a friends room to try and figure out what happened. About halfway down the hall was a glass front common room for study groups. In that room, was my room, perfectly set up computer turned on with a bunch of people playing video games. It was like a party in there. The worst part was I had to help move it all back afterwards, but it was a good joke I must admit.

Had a boss that liked to collect five gallon pails. He would always scrounge around looking for them. Taking whatever he could find. Pestering all he would come in contact with to get more pails. "Find me more buckets" Over and over again.
So we had finally had enough. We found all the 5 gallon buckets that were left in the world and stuffed them into his office. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling. On his desk. Under his desk, in his closet.
We left him just enough room to enter his office. When he entered and turned on the lights,
He laughed loudly and said, "Thanks for the buckets"
    April fool.

A few years back several coworkers plastered every inch of our boss’ office with post it notes. They were everywhere and on everything!

I was in the USAF Security Service overseas in the 70's.
At the time it was classified as to what we did.....but now we can all come out of the spy closet....we were radio intercept operators.....listening to everything available in our quadrant of the planet.

The training/brainwashing concerning secrecy was drilled into us for months before we got our assignment.
So when a new "Jeep" operator arrived, he got a rather shocking initiation on his first night, (they always started out on mids).
He would get sat at a station/radio and type Morse code that he thought was live off the air coming thru his headphones.
It was actually an in house keyed tape made specially for him.
We could patch anything anywhere in the building.

    From: Moscow....To all KGB stations:
BOLO for (his name..rank..SS #...hometown...anything else we could gleam from his files)…...pick up and detain for transport etc.

Everyone would watch the blood drain from his face as he typed this message out. Then raise his hand for the supervisor who would read the copy as serious as a heart attack.
The Air police were called in with M-16's to escort him to safety.
As they left the compound, it was suggested they check his mail box as he may not have another chance. Even the PO was in on this joke.....he had a note in the box that said "Gotcha...welcome aboard Jeep....take the rest of the night off!!"
He turned around and the armed escort had disappeared.

Didn't matter if it was April Fools day or not.

Can't even think of how many regs were broken by all involved but at 3 AM it was just entertainment to keep us awake.

One that occurred right here- "The Day The Wall Went Dry"!

Years ago, the Wall didn't have the sort of user profiles as now, so you could pretty much type in any name you wanted if you wanted to post something. @DanHolohan was out of town at the time, so @Dave Yates (PAH) and some others came up with a plan to have a bunch of scorched-error pushers take over the Wall on April Fool's Day.

Well, it worked- too well. Some very warped imaginations came into play, coming up with characters like "Tickles the cat" who was last seen inside a very complex duct system (and who never was found IIRC). The Wall looked like a furnasty/heat pump site that day. We were all laughing so hard our chests hurt, but Dan wasn't too happy when he got back. ISTR someone saved that thread somewhere, but whoever has it isn't telling.

So in case anyone's wondering why you have to create a profile to post on the Wall, that's one of the reasons. I've been involved in some classic pranks in my time, and this was one of the best.

    worst april fools prank/karmas a B
This could go in the bad timing category too.

Years ago my dad borrowed my car to go on a trip out of state, he left on April fools day, he called me a few hours after leaving and called and said "son we crashed your car, we're really sorry but there was nothing we could do"
    HA HA... very funny
I did not believe him even for a second and the call ended with him saying "ok we will be back tomorrow and you can see for yourself"
The next day he calls again
"hey pal... so... i was just kidding yesterday about the car but...not today"
Turns out... someone checked the oil and the hood latch failed, it flipped up and laid flat against the windshield at 80mph on the Mass turnpike. Everyone was ok so now its just a fun story :)

@JUGHNE My father-in-law did the same thing you did in the 60's. Little stories dribble out from time to time. Very interesting.

I had someone glue my desk phone receiver to the base. And the phone to the desk on april 1st. once. LOL
  • I just did this today:

One of my customers asked me if the system I proposed is going to work. I said no.
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

Steve, where was your father in law stationed and what branch?
We were all sworn to secrecy forever and restricted travel to Eastern block countries for maybe 10 after discharge.

We never spoke of our mission until perhaps 10 years ago, now that all this has been declassified.

Steamhead nailed it! However, when Dan returned home and blew off some steam, I contacted him to confess I started the thread. He graciously forgave me. I never expected it to take off like it did, but never have laughed as hard as I did during the numerous posts with devout Wetheads vowing to never again do anything except scorched error systems. Even now, the memory makes me laugh. Poor Tickles - I can hear her meows echoing from the maze of ducts via registers.

On April fools day,in the choose a truck thread I posted this.
    ==========================
Tata is bringing out a van, all of its controls, steering brakes etc are on a wireless dashboard. You do not ever have to reverse, just take the dash and chair to the other end of the van.

    No one saw the joke.

I was inspired to do the Tata one, driving through Arizona countryside saw a small track dozer being used to lay cable, the operator was leaning against the hood of his car with a keyboard controlling the machine. I was struck by how much the cost of the dozer was reduced by not having to protect the operator, no heat or A/C no ROPS, machine was much smaller because it had no operator.

My service tech at the time was a practical joker and he hid a carton half filled with spoiled chocolate milk inside another service techs service van. It drove that poor tech crazy. Frustrated, he told the person who hid the carton what he was going to do. The practical joker removed the carton and the poor tech pulled everything from the truck and could not find the source. The practical joker reinstalled the milk and the poor tech demanded I buy him a new truck That ended the milk carton debacle.
