    My wife was just showing me pictures of the Hot Pools.
    She said why don't we go there for vacation? I said , huhwierd!

    I knew about the hot springs and the Geo systems but never knew the totality of how it's all used and then reused, then reused again. The whole thing is awesome.
    If they have ice cream and Ring Dings it would be a perfect retirement place for me.

    Great read, Dan! Makes a guy want to go there and talk to the locals. That's my favorite thing to do when visiting Ireland.

    I asked a local if the had an army. He smiled and said, “Yes. Salvation.” The people are very special there.

    If you haven't been there it's hard to explain just how real Dan's observation is. 200ft cliff to a certain death there's just a thin rope and small sign 'caution rocks are slick'.

    One quirk of Iceland is their modern hotels/buildings are so well air sealed that IAQ can suffer miserably. Almost slept in the car one night the air was so thick and stale. But the awesome hotdogs and down to earth locals made up for it.

    I'd love to go someday; I don't suppose I will. Not only is the place special, so are the people -- and, I might add, the Icelandic ponies are really wonderful critters, if you like horses.

    When I came back from Iceland I made this list:
    1. Gutter cleaning
    2. Oil burner repairman
    3. Tree trimmer
    4. Hot water tank repair/installation
    5. Fall leaf cleanup
    These are jobs you would have a hard time getting there.

    Son-in-law is from Reykjavik, now living in CT. We were there for a visit. Wonderful folks, good food.

    We had not departed Boston when the first sign showed us what things would be like. The plane was 1/2 hour late because they could not leave without some passengers that were not through security yet. No one on board said a thing.

    The apartment they let us use was just a little to warm, heated slabs with good insulation.

    We had a great time.
