Could you look at this steam boiler and tell us what you think?

It looks like the installer found a way to save 2-4" elbows eliminating the swing joints at the same time. No doubt he replaced with what was there by reading the rating plate on the old one. If he had measured the rads he would have seen there is only 1307sqft of installed radiation in the house and a boiler that puts out 1938sqft is just a little oversized. The center pipe on the 6" X 2" tee must have looked good to drain the collision with a combined use of an equalizing line. Other than the Hartford connection, is there something I missed?

Header is built wrong, both boiler risers collide with the system takeoffs in the center, also no offsets in the header. Hartford loop is piped wrong, both returns should be joined below in the wet return, third return looks to not even be piped into the Hartford loop, but straight into the boilers return.

Just looks like the three stooges installed this boiler.

Pretty much the whole thing is due for sawzall surgery.

I'll add one, water feed is connected above the water line

Honestly, I think that Moe, Larry, and Curly with Shemp working as a gopher and running the pipe threader would do better than that.

@KC_Jones Aw, you beat me to it.. ;P

In seriousness, that piping is awful. Needs to all be removed and replaced with something that actually resembles the pictures in the manual or better.

On the positive side, at least there are not bushings buried into the 2 side outlets...….other than that...….

This is my favorite part...I can't even imagine what the thought process was. Can we get the company name so I can email them a link to this thread? I would so love to do that. ;)

@KC_Jones I've seen stuff like that from a local firm that is known for having techs who are on meth etc...

I have corrected work done by the local "Methhead" handyman.
    Both in electrical and plumbing.
There is no logic or reasonable planning in what he did.
Go from A to B to C and then back to A again.
Piping and wiring run in circles.

This is why employers do drug testing!

Yep. I've found that usually what people save on labor when hiring people like this, they spend on materials because the "handyman" uses 3 times the necessary amount randomly stringing wire and pipe all over the place....
