And usually not that hard to do it right. I usually just use TSP and follow @Dan Holohan method usually works the first time.

a salesman called me last night... He worked in the trades himself so know's to schedule for cleaning the boiler. One of our other crews installed a replacement boiler and near boiler piping. When the salesman stopped by, the nipple and shutoff for the skim port were still in the box. When asked about it, he was told you dont have to skim them anymore.. just dump in this bottle of cleaner (squick) and your all done. No one skims them anymore..
on a good note... he did follow the near boiler piping diagram.....

ok..so after a discussion, he went home after the talk with the salesman and did a little reading. never realized the need to do this with a steam system. He's scheduled to return on Tuesday to properly skim the system and I advised him to put in a followup this fall to flush the returns and reskim it again after it's been running for heat.. :) now to send him some books to read..:)

Story of my life. I don't do the planning or installs here but I get to deal with all the problems fixing it all afterwards...

Is it normal for Salesmen and Project Managers to not have a clue what they're doing?
    Never stop learning.
