Bad Steam Near Boiler Piping

Just bought a duplex with two steam boilers last fall. I read Dan's books and have been lurking here all winter. Had an issue last winter with the one below surging and banging pipes. I know it needs skimmed as well, but this is pretty bad piping yeah? No header, no hartford loop, odd equalizer setup, etc, etc.

I am going to repipe the boiler this summer and looking for your advice. Piping it how the manual has the header layout seems like it would be hard without moving the boiler (because they installed it so the right riser is directly below the steam main. I was thinking of taking both risers up into a header and then 90 (at the right side riser ) into to the equalizer in the back which will changed to a straight drop. After the 90, on the way to the equalizer, I will 45 up and go into the steam main. Would this be a problem? I'm not sure if 45ing into the main would cause issues, but can't think of how to pipe it without 45ing it because of how they installed the boiler with the right riser directly below the steam main. Any ideas or thoughts on this idea?

    This would be a great use for a drop header, using both outlet risers, and a proper equalizer. I don’t know that you have to go to the trouble of removing the ineffective connection between the outlet, and the wet return. Just make sure the header is one size bigger than the risers.—NBC

    and your sight glass is awful dirty, download the manual for that boiler and follow the piping instructions, it's as simple as that, the manufacturers make these things called installation instructions in the hope that someone might read them, usually they are the first thing to get chucked to the side or tossed
