Great looking job. It’s so rare to see it done properly all the way.

    What software for the design?

Better boiler, and much better install, should last a long time. Might want to make sure water quality and quantity wasn't a factor, but I'm sure you've already done that.

Awesome as always @New England SteamWorks, but to be fair to Burnham, that boiler was piped wrong...and likely never maintained or tested for water quality. Having said that, I’ve replaced many a leaking Burnham, independence and V series.

What's the vertical tee on the skim port for?

    1. Observation port while skimming
    2. Additives such as SteamMaster tablets.

No need @bill714, he created a water seal.

I see, could this be done only off the top of the boiler or could use a side port too.

The Pig tail is used to trap water between steam and controls to protect it from the steam damage... The trap is formed in the way the control manifold was piped . With every conceivable cleaning port ...

I have to say it is the most impressive near boiler steam piping I have seen in a very long time... The alignment looks perfect . First time I have seen an Y at the Hartford loop . Cant get closer then that ... Curious about the shut offs on the main ...

I have enough experience to know , that I dont know it all

Without the King Valves on the mains how would one check the relief valve?

Your boiler is tapped 1/4” @bill714, so the water seal isn’t necessarily the better option there as it’s the same size at the pigtail. The union installed below your pressuretrol makes maintenance a breeze. To answer your question though, it could be done off the top or side port.

Well, except the MegSteam doesn't have a spare side or top tapping. If I get a customer with a MegaSteam that wants a fancy gauge header I bush the 1/4" tapping to 1/2" right out of the boiler and build this:

I have redone controls and built a gauge/control header by putting tees/nipples (SS or brass) on the sight glass ports. The glass could be reinstalled off to the side on branch of the tee or the fronton the run.
The extra opening would be for the water sealed header.
The lower opening plugged and allows lower port cleanout to see what sludge might be headed to the bottom of the sight glass.

The sight glass would be back to the original connection levels.

    @jughne,

Don't know how I know this or if it's true but I was told way back that a sight glass had to be piped straight out of the boiler into the sight glass no elbows etc. Of course you can put tees or Ys between the boiler and the sight glass but the glass has to be on the run of the tee
