Ball valve not closing

Hey,

The other week I discovered~2 extra gallons of water in my single pipe steam system. I emptied it back down to the correct level and assumed I had screwed up - filled it and not accounted for the steam in the system which then overfilled it.

But I just found the same thing AGAIN after hearing water in the radiators (or close to them).

Is it possible my eight year old ball valve for the water filler line is leaking???

    yes. it happens. sometime the packing around the ball vale gets distorted. The cheaper sweat ball valves are particularly prone to this if the valve is over heated when installed.

    2 possibilities. The ball valve is leaking by. Do you have a tankless coil for dhw in the boiler?? If the tankless coil has an internal leak that could be the problem
