Goodbye Baseboard

Last piece of slantfin removed from my one pipe steam system. The previous owner went on a modernizing spree in the 80's. The slantfin worked great while the boiler ran but got stone cold in 5 minutes after it stopped firing.

Found this american radiator wall rad across the street in the trash. Unfortunately it was three sections long. I seperated it, cleaned up and finally got it in. Still need to find some better wall brackets.

You must have a better garbage pickup than we have, as we are restricted to 35 pounds a can!—NBC

How many men did it take to move a 3 section assembly like that?

Great move....if you feel it’s a bit oversized or you want regulation, install a thermostatic vent..

    Great find.

I have 2 of those radiator. Great heat output but minimal footprint. 1 have a single section in a little 15 sqft bathroom closet with a TRV. And a 2x4 array in a foyer hallway near an outside door. I think the vent is in the wrong spot. The dead men made a few mistakes sometimes.

I moved the three section assembly myself, it wasnt easy. A lot of sliding and dragging. Im going to put a slower vent in, the gorton 6 is way too fast for it.

Where can I find some decent brackets for this rad?

If you can't find them - you can fashion some out of a good lag bolt into a stud and a piece of rectangle steel with a hole in the middle that you can probably get any machine or welding shop to make you for cheap. 3 points of contact, 2 under the rad sides, one in at the top middle between the ribs. Then paint the same color as the radiator.

    Man, that's a nice radiator...

Yes, I kinda think it was the later generation dead men, that were not as skilled....I have seen some really piss poor work by the original installers.

Mike, Why would your copper fin baseboard go stone cold, just because the boiler turned off.
    Does your pump run constantly?
Does your boiler control provide outdoor reset control?
