Hoffman Steam Traps 17c vs. 17a

What is the difference between these too? 17a is not made anymore, so can I just replace with 17c? I have 9 year cage units in 17a rads (4) now, and it looks like replacement cage might be dying out. So, thinking of going to 17c.

Can't find much online. Thanks for the help.

    Have a look on the Barnes and Jones website to see if the replacement cage units are the same for both models.

    Thanks for the post, but maybe my original post was confusing.

    I am going to replace all current B&J cage units in 17a traps, as I have one that is bad and others are 9 years old. But as another option, I was thinking of just swapping out the entire traps to something better/more available today, such as 17c. (and 17a cage units are hard to find).

    And B&J cage units are different for 17c and 17a.

    You may want to look into the venting rate of a 17c vs. your current 17as with B&J cage units. The B&J cage units are known to vent faster than the stock Hoffman traps. Swapping one for the other could upset some balancing depending on where you're putting them.

    As you mentioned the 17C uses different units. Functionally they are the same. No issues getting them, just a matter of the factory making them. 17C is more popular though.

    I'd stick with what you have and just replace units. The stock of 17A units isn't drying up but your distributor might not have them on the shelf.

    Just curious, which version of the 17A do you have?
    I've only seen the one with the "removable" seat.
