rusty nipple question

i know this a family forum but i am cleaning some rusted iron pipe nipples from our storage bins, that took a bath in a chain of events too rube goldberg to recount, with an acid soak. i was planning to spray them with a little light oil once i rinse so they don't go right back to rust. given all the oil that is never completely removed from the threading process i don't conceive of this as being incompatible or requiring some additional scouring before use, but i'm wondering if there is any recommended light oil coat with just a 3 and 1 type light machine oil in a hand sprayer or , spray with PB blaster or WD-40 or any the above or other odd notions that anyone can recommend.

PS - recognizing that admitting i still use threaded pipe is kind of dating my self in this propress age but . . . .

food grade mineral oil is always an option.
