    Beautiful work.
But boy do those 2" risers look tiny on an IN9, eh?

Two questions: how do you keep the pipe dope cleaned off after threading in to the fittings, and what do you use for a pipe wrench to not mark the fittings up?
    Nice clean looking job.

I'm betting he uses very little tape and dope, so none ends up in the exposed threads. Also, I *think* cast iron fittings don't usually show teeth marks like malleable. Never paid attention honestly, but that's my guess.

actually i do use alot of blue monster thread tape covered in megaloc pipe thread dope. But my personal pet peeve is seeing pipe thread compound on a completed install. Since i was on this job myself, i figured i would lead by example and spent about two hours with a razor blade and a wire brush. I know...its anal..but its a personal psychological issue..i don't enforce it with the guys, but i figure if they watch me doing it, it may rub off...maybe..as for pipe wrenches, we just use standard wrenches..we take them off to reposition, we don't ratchet them..maybe thats why the marks are minimal.

Looks great.....Which I expected nothing less! What's that pipe near the wall that looks like a false water line, but reversed.

That is a false water line. The vent doesn't matter where it is placed as long as its on the top, as its function is just to provide a siphon break so one doesn't get the effect of a 'bucket flush' on a toilet during the initial cold start up heavy condensate load. This is a vapor system, and on vapor systems we run the siphon break pipe up to the ceiling as an open pipe, (no air vent needed).

So there is no balance pipe connected to the system side of the loop to equalize pressure on the return? It looks like you are just using the stacked water in the pipe to equalize the pressure on the end of the return.....I 've done that before.

Doing pretty well. Looking at some pretty big projects over the next couple years and growing repeat business. Making a big ad push to expand up in the North Shore.... hope it pays off. Running ads in Ravinia, Angie's List and the Merc. magazine. Found out that Yelp is a waste of money...thier categories are too generic so you end up paying for a whole bunch of hits that are not in your field. With Yelp you pay by the Click...big waste of money. Beginning to break into the bigger high rise market on LSD, so that is promising and requires a lot of extra labor time due to lack of on site parking.

You, sir, are a steely-eyed steam man!

Liking the old old style vaporstat. If they are off, do you try to adjust them?

Like the use of the 1/2" stainless piping around the vxt.

Interesting that stainless is now cheaper than brass in many cases, now that brass is no longer a "Californian killer".

lol..i'm sorry Danny- i had a brain traf..we started doing these feeders in stainless as Gordo picked up on when Steve determined that the feeders were significantly more stable when piped with ridgid pipe..but we didn't want to use black for it..i guess its kind of obvious in retrospect..now i wonder why we ever piped them directly with copper..i guess another brain traf :D

Hi Gordo- yes i will tinker with the vaporstats. Especially the new ones which tend to not work. I figure if they aren't working i have nothing to loss by employing the 'what happens if i turn this screw ' principal..lol..

Around here, 304SS nipples and fittings sell for just under half the price of LF brass.

Side note: There appear to be benefits from using both tape and dope on threaded SS-SS connections. SS-brass, SS-steel, and SS-copper all work pretty well with either or IME.
