Never did business with them until a couple weeks ago. I'm close enough to pickup at their warehouse. Needed some Buderus TRV's ASAP. No one has them, have to be ordered. Supplyhouse has them in stock, order online and drive over there. They have a counter setup for pickups staffed by a very pleasant guy who seemed happy to see me, 60 seconds later,I'm walking out with the TRV's. Contrast that with a pickup at LI's biggest wholesaler, you are generally ignored and treated as an annoyance. They have a better mousetrap

I usually get most of my material from them, the price is right, my supplier is mabe a smudge cheaper however since their out of state I pay no tax, so it evens out. What I like most is their parts are all brand new fresh, unlike the local supply house were some parts could be rusty from sitting on the shelf. And their quick usually next day delivery.

Free freight above $200.00? It's nice to shop 24/7 also.

You can shop prices better at Amazon, and with Amazon Prime, free freight.

We do several hundreds of thousands of dollars of purchasing with them yearly. There customer service is great and as Robert O'Brien mentioned there pick up counter at the warehouse is a breeze to work with. They stock a ton of Caleffi products which is great. There's only one wholesaler in my area of NJ that stocks some Caleffi products. Free shipping on $100 or more orders.

We've got Prime but I've rarely used Amazon for anything plumbing related. Maybe it's just because supplyhouse has a much nicer search setup for it.

The original reason I started using pexsupply (at that time) was I was tired of the garbage homer and lowes has at not so cheap prices. I found good stuff I could get online and being in NJ UPS ground gets it to me fast. I don't know the total but I'm sure I've blown over 3 grand at supplyhouse.com since 2011. I'm sure pros can bury that number in a short time but for a homeowner I think it's decent.

A wonderful creation, but I wonder if a welded drop header with threaded risers, and drops from the boiler would have been more cost effective.--NBC

at 4" i think it's a tossup using threaded vs. welded. With 6"-10" headers welded using threadolets as needed to get swing joints does it for me.

@EzzyT on stuff 4" and below sure, but why would you say that with larger stuff?

The two fittings with the unions connect to the boiler risers right? Shouldn't the elbow with the nipple and cap pointing down be a reducer ell?
  • EzzyT

Expansion and contraction which creates some movement even micro inches. Threaded joint have the capability for that moment with out leaking unlike welded joints don't they will eventually snap. I was taught the old fashion way and a threaded piping schematic looks so much nicer then a welded one. I'm not saying I haven't seen beautiful welded piping which I have seen plenty of.

@unclejohn why should it be a reducer ell.I much rather the way he is going to pipe it.Beautiful work.

Isn't the equalizer always smaller then the header. I see in his latest post that the pipe size drops after he turns back to the returns.

@EzzyT I create welded headers with threadolets which still allow for swing joints on a drop header.

The equalizer has a minimum size but no maximum. It can be the size of the header if someone wants or even bigger. As long as it's 1 1/2" or larger and drains well everyone's happy.

And Chrisj how many equalizers are piped in11/4.Even though I believe every manual asks for a minimum a 11/2.Well I am pretty sure Dave will be just fine with his.....

I usually run my headers like this, I like to drop full size then reduce down to 2". Even though I run a horizontal pipe it's pitched slightly and water drains and never had any issues with it this way .

What's the reasoning for gate valves on steam take offs, I see it all the time and wondered why? Does it have something to do with the silicon in ball valves deteriorating from the steam?

You can run a ball valve no problem, this is a preference, I like gate valves, plus they look nostalgic.
