Somebody didn't even look at the manual. All that room above the boiler, connecting the steam main between the risers - the installer couldn't be bothered to do it right.

The three 90 degree turns on the risers are cute.

Good god man! Haven't you ever heard of swing joints? ;)

He even used a genuine merchant coupling AND he spray painted only the iron as he obviously knew that when his solder joints start to fail it will take much less time not having to clean the paint off the copper to repair it. :s

I will update as I can...that's only the boiler, The system was installed in the 1930 era. A quick walk thru shows signs of a poorly piped system...by the dead men...Takeoffs out of the 12 o'clock position, must have been low on 45s that day..Then enter mr. Handy dandy adding 10 foot lengths of baseboard with 3/4 in. run outs...This is a beautiful 3000 sq. ft. home in the Boston city area..Mr. Nicely paid home inspector missed all these MINOR details....Now a nice new young hard working family has to make a choice....I think it sucks

Now, now, let's not talk bad about the dead men. You never know, maybe they factored in the 5% loss and liked doing it that way ;)

What are the qualifications to become a home inspector. That guy should be held accountable as well as installer. As you said now it is the new home owners problem .What a complete s**t show.

My entire system is done this way. Every takeoff at the 12 o'clock position. I know it's wrong, but no way am I ripping the whole system out to fix it. Also it's quiet as a church mouse so I can't really complain. Even "wrong" things can work ok...SOMETIMES. That boiler piping is ugly though. Is it also oversized or did they get that part correct?

We'll haven't quite got that far yet, just a quick 5 min. Walk thru...Sure systems out here work when they shouldn't, but how they work is another question..and what is the cost as far as overall system efficiency. I would guess not very good....You must have a lot of swing joints in your system, if they come off the 12 o'clock not only will it rain on your steam but what about pitch on the Takeoffs? How did they obtain that....I wouldn't like that in my house...

I think the home inspectors wake up on a particular day and put home inspector on the side of there truck, buy or steal a nice bright flash light and pad of paper with his new heading on it. Then go to sears and get a nice looking work shirt with his name and a stuff on it...Then orders a top Angie's award sticker on line and sticks that on his truck...Then writes up the biggest disclaimer you ever saw.....Now he's the man!!! before doing all that he was a steam installing expert, that's what it said on his prettied up truck......dead man stickers and all..Any home inspector that missed something as simple and as wrong this is a thief......
