WHat is the best way , short of dismantling , the radiator traps on two pipe steam systems?

    When the boiler is running... a) the radiator should get hot. If it doesn't, the trap is failed closed (or, of course, the inlet valve is closed...). b) when the radiator is pretty well hot all across, the outlet pipe (below the trap) could be warm -- perhaps quite warm -- but not steam hot. Best to check with an IR thermometer, but can also do it by hand. If the pipe is steam hot, the trap is failed closed.
