on my steam mains in the basement, asbestos wraps the mains.
The integrity of the asbestos is in very good shape , except for
a three foot section, This section as many pock marks. Is it okay to
leave it be or is there something I can wrap over it. Also, if I were to
sell my home, and if I did nothing to it, would it pass an inspection this
way? Is there something "I" can do to wrap it and still have it pass
an inspection down the road?

There are plastic sleeves you get at heating/plumbing supply house or online at buyinginsulationproductstore.com. Whether this will pass inspection you might to hear from pros on this site. As a homeowner I bouught on line and covered good and questionalbe asbestos.

You can also use the plaster impregnated gauze used by doctors for splints -- and modellers for scenery. It has the real advantage that once it sets, it's there to stay with no possibility of leaks. And it's cheap. If messy.

Now as to selling... and a home inspection. That's another story. Some folks won't find it to be a problem. Others, though, will panic completely and run screaming out the door. Ditto home inspectors.
