Well the new boiler is finished and running!

Wanted to thank everyone on this site for all the input and advice either directly or indirectly (I read a lot of old posts). I finished the install today and fired the boiler off. Everything is running smoothly and I couldn't be happier with the final results. Here are a few pics of the completed install. I installed a lo/hi fire system (Maxitrol) and tried to incorporate as many suggested "extras" I read about on this site. I hope I did justice to the "Dead Men".

That should serve you well for a long time, well done.

The only quibble I have is the use of an auto water feeder. I would valve it off unless I was going to be away from the house on vacation. My complaint with them is they lead to complacency, a boiler needs to be looked at a few times a week to feel the love. I also detest them because the wrong kind can surreptitiously feed water and mask system problems but the meter on that one negates that fear.

I would be happy to have a boiler that well done in my own house.

Very nice piping there, looks good.

What model boiler is it, looks like EG40??

One question, why did you reduce the risers instead of running them full up to the header?

Well done- and that VXT is the only water feeder to use, with its digital counter that tracks water usage.

I had posted a picture of my proposed piping design a while ago and it was suggested that doing it this way versus bushing it down right at the outlet would help reduce the initial steam velocity. The cost wasn't that much more so I did it. I didn't see the point on this size boiler in doing full 3" risers since I was only doing a 3" header the 2-2" risers match the volume of a 3" header pretty well so I went that route. Weil McLain says 1 2 1/2" riser at a minimum so I am easily exceeding that. Oh and yes it's an EG-40. Had a 45 before which was oversized and honestly the 40 is oversized, but I plan on some small additions to the house and I have a couple rooms that don't have rads now and will need something added at some point. This boiler leaves me about 60 sq. ft. to play with and honestly the 35 would have been a hair to small for the current set up. The low fire should help as well. The last thing I need to do is get my uncle to bring his equipment up and tune the gas valve for me....low is a bit too low right now. Thank you all for the compliments I am pretty proud of the results.

That's really sweet ! You probably sit on a stool down there with a six pack of beer just to watch the gauges.

What is the purpose of the hose between the bottom of the sight glass and the drain for the wet return?

lol it's just shoved in there to keep it off the floor. I have since added a copper "holster" for the hose on the side of the jacket.

I just noticed your skim port does not have a plug on it. If someone were to open that valve while the boiler was making steam the results could be tragic. I put a threaded plug on mine just for peace of mind, you can see the threaded plug sitting on top of the boiler.

It's plugged. I was still doing skimming when those pics were taken. After the last skim I installed the plug. Oh and in my house nobody, but me wants to go into that "dirty basement". lol Also if you look closely you can actually see the plug sitting on top of the boiler in the one picture.

Excellent!! When craftsmanship rises to this level of perfection it become a piece of art. Well Done!

However, there appears to be something seriously wrong with your boiler. I see flames rising up on the front panel. Doesn't this thing have a rollout switch? If so, it must be damaged. You need to get this fixed before you burn your house down. >:)

I did that on purpose to stop from wasting all the heat up the chimney. Bypass the rollout switch and close off the flue, instant workshop heat! lol
