I have an old oil fired boiler connected to a 2 pipe steam system.

I am going to give an estimate to replace it.

The burner is firing 1.65gph.

The riser off the boiler is 4 3/8" diameter.

The drum I believe is 2 1/2 and the 2 take offs are at a 45 degree angle to the supplies.

My question is, do I eliminate the whole drum and make 2 supplies from the new header or make 1 supply from the new header tied into the old header?

    It would be wise to do a survey of the radiators to check on the sizing of the new boiler, since the old one may have been incorrect.

    The manufacturer's piping instructions should be followed at a minimum. A drop header will solve many problems of installing and running, especially with a large header, and both risers being used.

    If there are 2 mains, then pipe a separate takeoff from the header for each.
