A rare sighting

This boiler seems to have actually been properly piped with a skim port!--NBC

    Wow

The first thing that came to mind when I read that was this : http://37.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpkduqrvjg1qj9qhto1_500.gif

It's pretty sad when we're amazed it was actually done correctly. :( Of course, does make you wonder why it was removed? From what I've seen 3 years is plenty of time to rott a block out and I don't like the looks of that gauge glass.

    Switched

Probably going to scorched air or hot water?  I hope I don't see a fist come out of my monitor for that comment.  Just seems like an obvious reason for someone to tear out a basically new boiler.  Or maybe the house is being torn down?  Oh and it looks like they also installed a proper sized riser and header, a vaporstat and I would bet if we studied or asked they have a low pressure gauge as well.

    Ouch

I'd rather a house torn down than converted to as steamhead says, scortched-error.

    Sadly, people are idiots.

Sadly people are idiots andsimply don't understand steam of hot water heating, and will rip out entire new systems just to put in a air system if they then have A/C cooling.

I'm in the greater Cincinnati, Dayton and part of Columbus area Ohio, and every week there are dozens of steam or water boilers being posted to craigslsit.

It's basically futile to even try to suggest to people the option of installng a hydronic system as the few companies that maybe could, charge 7 times higher than for comparable air installs.

Cannot tell you how many times I've taken scrap to the recyclers yards to see truckloads of almost new looking boilers and radiators being dumped. Picked up by giant magnets and crushed.

Even more frustrating is all the foreclosed homes? Often times they weren't properly winterized and so boilers and radiators froze/broke.

The US Fed Gov paid for new boiler and heating systems in I don't want to know how many houses, people then come in and buy the houses off the FedGov and were immediately pulling out and junking brand new boiler installs... all so people could have air conditioning.

The Hydronics industry has completely and utterly failed at every turn to educate the masses about hydronic heating or grab greater market share of from the air-monkeys.

I've tried to point out to people the efficiency, or that they could have a air handler cooling system independent of their water boiler... then the HVAC guys come around and say it'll cost 30 Grand more to do it that way then to just pull the boiler and put in a air system... lies lies and lies.

    Sorry for the minirant.
