Water Hammer Question:

Hoping for some help here:

Steam radiator in bedroom presents classic water hammer. Super of building has provided new valve and adjusted pitch of the radiator. Super disconnected the radiator and said it was dry (I.e. No trapped water). Water hammer persists and super suggests I might be hearing the echo of downstairs neighbor's water hammer.

Question: if the sound is only an echo or the result of sound waves coming up from neighbor, would it help to remove the radiator? My thinking is that there would be less for the sound waves to bounce off of.

Anybody have insight here?

    Not exactly an echo.

It's just transmitted sound. If you bang on a pipe that's connected to a radiator, most of the noise will come from the radiator. The super needs to fix the water hammer wherever it is. If he isn't up to the job, he can call in a professional.
