    The only thing I have to say is that we avoid installing unions on the horizontal. The pipes will move around and make them leak. Otherwise, great looking job.

    Beautiful work, but I would get rid of that evil autofeeder.  Either get rid of it and go 100% manual or get rid of it and install a VXT.

    Auto feeder choices

    The vxt has a built in meter, but I would still keep any auto-feeder valved off, for at least a couple of months, so as to see if there is any leakage.

    Automatic water-feeders

    The only problem with water feeders is that, in spite of what the literature that comes with them tells you, very clearly, they make some people think they don't need to mind the water level anymore. But that's not really the fault of the water feeder, now is it? You might as well say that bad near-boiler piping is the fault of steam boilers, not the knuckleheads who can't read and follow an IOM. I guess if you really believe people are just that intrinsically stupid, then they really should avoid water feeders, steam boilers and sharp objects, but I'm a little more optimistic. I believe people can be educated, and that, armed with the right information, they can make good decisions, and I don't think hyperbole about safety devices being "the work of the devil" is conducive to that end.

    Depends, either way the only feeder I'd ever put on my system is a VXT.





    Yes, it should ONLY be an emergency device and really should never turn on as the user\operator of the boiler should be manually adding. Still, I feel the VXT is a better feeder and the meter is a must. The feeder with the meter, has a good sound to it.



    I still don't have an autofeeder and may never for the simple fact I can't bare to think about my boiler sitting there with fresh water in it for any length of time, emergency or not. But we all know I'm weird.

    I can't bear to think about all the water spewing out of my boiler and flashing to steam

    But I still have a relief valve on my boiler.
