New to the boiler scene

Options
Hello All,

I have just purchased a older home, 89 years old to be exact. Everything has been updated including the boiler. My problem is that the boiler locks out once a week or so, but as of today it has done it more than once. I would shut off the power switch for about a min or so and this normally solved the problem, but now it is taking longer. The model is a Weil Mclain Gold GV-5 it says it is a 4 series. Is there some preventive maintenance issues that I don't know about? I really don't have the funds currently for a technician, and I really want to know this system for myself. I will borrow funds and call a tech if I need to, but I want to know if I have done all that I can first. The system looks as if it was installed no longer than a year or two ago.

    Is this the manual?

I've never seen one of these but I think this link will take you to the manual. on page 51 you'll find a chart showing a fault table vs indicator lights, does yours match up with any of these?

The troubleshooting section starts on page 66. If you can narrow the problem down somebody might be able to help you. Just don't start taking things apart if you don't understand what your doing, gas fired appliances have to be treated with care and respect.

    fault codes

when you have specific questions later, i would suggest posting them on the main wall, as this forum is specifically steam.

if this is a modulating-condensing boiler, you may want to have the annual service done, and have the tech show you how to do the cleaning etc. yourself.--nbc

the GV locks out on safety

a lock out once a year is one thing. You needs to get the burner looked at. Is it firing on oil? The boiler could be dirty, out of tune or the chimney could be blocked.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    Here's the manual

Assuming the model number is correct, this is a gas-fired condensing boiler, and you have a hot-water system rather than steam. W-M makes the statement on the cover of the manual, that this boiler should only be serviced by a qualified tech .
