Over simplication?

Could a probe really pierce a gas line? Our lines into our buildings are all solid black iron.

    There was

Already a leak. But the gas worker punctured the line with his probe. Okay how did the fire marshal determine which leak caused the explosion?

Looks like no cover charge anymore at that particular strip club.

    Slide hammer probe...

They use a device that is made of hardened steel, about 4' long, 3/8" diameter, pointed on the end and the upper part of made of a larger heavier pipe, and is used like a slide hammer. They don't usually do much more than penetrate the asphalt and put their sniffer in to find gas, or not.

I'm guessing that the original leak was the reason for the explosion, and NOT the service man looking for it. Lucky no one died...

It's not so much a case of "You got what you paid for", as it is a matter of "You DIDN'T get what you DIDN'T pay for, and you're NOT going to get what you thought you were in the way of comfort". Borrowed from Heatboy.
