Cleaning a New Steam Main

Are there any special ways to clean all new steam piping in a basement? I had to run all new steam mains and runouts, and cleaned the boiler with TSP like I always do, I'm wondering if I should overfill the boiler to the with the TSP solution and fill the mains?

Thanks, Bob Gagnon

    That can be done

if the new piping is dirty enough. You'll want to set the system up for a no-return flush as described in chapter 16 of Lost Art.

    Cleaning Pipes

When I was building my new header I cleaned the insides of the new pipes with these GOJO cleaning wipes I got to keep my hands and tools clean. They have a grease-cutting cleaner and a textured surface for scrubbing. I think Blue Monster has a similar product. Old rags and turpentine would probably work just as well, if not better.
