Can't get Gas Steam Boiler Working

Hi Group. The boiler has a pilot light but the sight glass is filled with murky water (it's actually clear on the bottom 2/3 of the glass tube but dark and dirty at the top 1/3). Tried draining the boiler through drain valve. Filled up three 5 gallon buckets until all the water was out. However the water in the sight glass didn't budge.

There's power going to the boiler, a digital thermostat that works and a pilot light. But when I turn the temp up from 10 degrees past it's programmed target, the burners of the boiler fail to cut on.

Any advice?

    What brand and model boiler?

    Do you have a picture?

Sounds like a dirty safety or control.

    Thanks!

Thanks much for your response. I'll get a pic as well as the make and model of the boiler. Is that something a plumber has to fix?

Find a good boiler guy. Not just a plumber.

Where are you located? Have you tried the Find A Contractor link on the top of this page?

Hi. Here they are and thanks again. It's a Peerless Boiler.

Well, it could really be anything. My first step would be to check the pigtail and pressure assembly for blockage. Then move on to the other controls. If the sight glass is blocked up, chances are that the other controls are dirty.

    Thank you again.

I'm assuming that is something that is best done by a boiler specialist as opposed to a Do-it-yourself situation?

Well, you can try it yourself. If you have any reserve about it, don't even start. If you feel comfortable enough, we can help you here.
