Trane system

Does anyone know if trane made anything else besides a vapor/vac system??? Cool old house 1885.

Not sure if Trane existed in 1885

but their equipment may have been retrofitted. What did you find? Any pics?

    I figured

that trane didn't exist in 1885. however, it is a 2 pipe system with trane thermostatic traps on the radiators no numbers of course The boiler was replaced in 97 with a wm by the way a very talented co-worker put this in and the attention to detail is wonderful.  The traps are failing and i was just curious if they made just a conventional 2 pipe system. I'm going with new barnes and jones traps and I don't see any other vapor signs in any of the piping. it probably was retrofitted. Sorry I don't have any more than this

Plenty of those Tranes around here

most of which were installed in the 1920s. You may find evidence of an older system in that house- possibly gravity scorched-air. Steam or hot-water was considered an upgrade from gravity scorched, since that type of system often didn't circulate well.

Look on the sides of the trap bodies. Very often you will find the model number there. We see a lot of B1 traps around here, and B2 or B3 on a few larger jobs.

I much prefer rebuilding rather than replacing thermostatic traps, as you don't run the risk of breaking pipes. However, these Trane traps were made in several variations- integral or replaceable seat, integral or replaceable bellows- so you need to know what you're working with before ordering parts.

i'm rebuilding them with cage units because the pipes look like they'll twist off if you look at them wrong. also ran across an old moline system the other day
