A REALLY plugged vent!

Found this old Trane vent at our local Mennonite church. Someone had screwed a 1/4" plug from an oil burner fuel unit into it! And they wondered why that main heated slowly.....



In the pic, the vent on the left is unmodified. You can see the plug in the top of the one on the right.



Didn't have my camera for the Gorton #2 retrofit, unfortunately. But we used a dozen #2 vents on this job, which speeded up the system dramatically. We also repiped the primary low-water cutoff on the boiler to the proper height, so it wouldn't tend to overfill, which eliminated a source of banging.



We'll never see it all, eh?

    Our Favorate Plugged Vent

    Still has to be "the stealth plug".



    No need for any stinkin' 3/4" plugs AND increases fuel consumption at the same time!



    It sure stops those vents from leaking, too.

    Plug a main vent, or in my case drill a hole in a pipe to drain condensate into a crawl space,  whats the difference as long as it makes it work, right?

    So few seem to take pride in their work anymore. :(
