Hi

 I just replaced my oil head with a Carlin EZ gas head and installed a <em>Aluminum Chimney</em> Liner.liner is not insulated. My stack temp after the draft regulator is 325-350 deg and my chimney runs threw the center of the house, the unit is running 79 to 80 % eff, co2% 9.5 O2 3.9 net STK 385 deg .my question is <strong>what kind of service</strong> <strong>life will i get out of the liner</strong>. liner will be inspected twice a year, would liked to put in stainless vent pipe but the cost for the Aluminum Chimney Liner was 120 dollars. i will put in a stainless liner within the next few years, I would like to get a few years out of this liner but with the cost of stainless it will have to wait for a year or two.



Any thoughts on this.

    Others may not agree

    but my experience with aluminum liners on gas has been pretty good. As long as you are able to hold temps around 350 degrees you should not have any condensing problems. All systems will have some wet-time so monitor the liner and see how it goes. I would prefer the stainless just for the sake of longevity.

    carry a 15 year warranty. That's not to bad for a liner, depending on brand...

    According to our chimney contractor

    if the chimney ever served a coal- or oil-fired boiler, the residue from these will eat up an aluminum liner. So we always use stainless steel.

    Good point

    Yes it did serve as oil and coal back in the day. It will come out next year and i will put in stainless, I should get one season out of it before it turns to dust.

    Yep

    Unit was cleaned with degreaser and washed with a hose. Cleaner than the day it came from the factory, box is mint. New damper duel with a pair of spill switches.
