life expectancy of an oil tank?

in THE MAIN WALL
hi,my american standard boiler is original with original oil tank.about 40 yr old.will be replacing boiler shortly,as suggested by another member here maybe an mpo-iq.should i change tank to,or maybe convert to gas.oil tank is in basement and looks in pretty good shape.just wanted to get your thoughts,i have an oil rep coming soon and am pretty sure of what he will say.

    Wouldn't be a bad idea

    to replace the tank if it's that old. Go with a dual-containment type like the Roth.

    Oil tank

    More often than not an oil tank will rot through from the inside out. The bottom can look good until a leak actually starts. When you pull the tank and clean it out you can see a lot of pock marks. The sludge that forms on the botttom is acidic. At 40 years I'd replace the tank.

    yank it out too.  But PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE, no matter what anyone tells you, do NOT put any oil from the old tank into the new one. Not a drop.  Everytime someone doesnt heed this advice, they spend a long time wishing they had.

    confirmed it for me.im switching to gas,get rid of the oil altogether.
