    Sorry, Irish.....

It's just that this is heating season and many of us get home late, too tired to eat dinner let alone get on the computer. I often post questions and never get an answer and I've been here since for quite awhile.

You should post your question in "The Main Wall" as it get much more traffic.  Also, this is the radiant heating forum and yes, your system is hydronic, but not radiant.

As far as your original question, it sounds as though you have a 2-pipe system, either direct return or reverse return.  You can use the existing 1-1/4" iron mains and come off the existing branches with copper, no problem.  What size are the branches - 3/4"?

What part of the country are you in?
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

    Irish

This site is a free service manned by people who earn their living doing this work and for free answer the questions posted here. Sorry you got your Irish up. Actually I have not even sat down for my dinner and it is almost 11 pm here.

    people

don't feed the trolls and don't apologize to people who stomp and cry when they don't get exactly what they want when they want it.

Forum help for heating systems is not an instantaneous event. Grow up, Irish. and the answer to your question is: you probably need someone on site to figure out what you've got before you figure out where you are going. If part of your system is degraded to the point of turning it off, I see no reason why you should trust the trunklines either.

    Useless?

    Irish,

Some of the brightest minds in the industry take the time to answer the posts. The site is far from useless. There isn't a supply house in this country that boast the amount of knowledge, experience and unselfishness that you find from the contractors, reps and wholesalers that take time out of their day to respond to people or fellow contractors in need. Not only is your response insulting to me but you have also disrespected the man responsible for putting together what I feel is the best place in the world to come for advice and direction when it comes to heating.

Sometimes post may not get a response because you cannot design, advise, help troubleshoot from afar when in a case like yours you need to visit the job. You may have received a quicker response by posting pictures, maybe a sketch or another tool that may have made it easier to reply to your post.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

Spent most of the day last Saturday dealing with a customer like this.

No heat call last Saturday.  Tech went out.  Found problem.  Really old system.

We couldn't locate the replacement part locally.  We are up here in the middle of nowhere Maine.  I told the customer that I would call a few guys from the supply houses at home to see what I could find.

He called me at least 4 times over the next hour berating me, asking what was taking so long.  I politely asked him to find another P&H guy.  Sometimes it just isn't worth the money.
