Viessmann vs Slant Fin

Our nat gas boiler was red-tagged this week so we are in the market for a new one.  With snow today we don't want to drag this on any longer.  AFter several quotes we've narrowed it down to Viessmann Vitodens 100 or the Slant/Fin Victory VSPH150. 

2 Viessmann contractors both thought we were right on the edge between 100 & 200.  Since we have a gas fireplace on mainfloor & plan to replace windows, 100 will probably (?) do the job.

Does anyone have an opinion on either of these?  With gov't rebates the price is essentially the same for both.  Warranty is a little better on the Slant/Fin.  Slant/Fin has been described as a work horse.  Viessmann may be more costly to fix - more like a German luxury car.

Eventually plan to finish basement and put in radiant floor heat.  Rest of the house is cast iron rads.  House is about 80 years old.

    Your description of both is right on. The greater issue to concern yourself with is the installer. The best boiler in the world can be defeated by a poor installation. And a good middle of the road boiler will perform and last a long time if installed and maintained correctly.

    Ironman is right.

    Personally, I am a Viessmann guy.  I have never put in a Slant Fin.



    However, a good installer is the key to everything.  You can take the finest equipment on the market and put it in the hands of a bone head and it will run like crap.



    On the other hand, a true professional can take a medium quality system and make it run like a top.



    Do your homework on the installer and that will make your decision for you.  Ask around.  Ask for references on similar jobs.
