SF Intrepid with Indirect DHW?

After flopping back and forth between oil vs. gas .. and the MegaSteam vs. Intrepid .. an interesting point came up today .. can the SF Intrepid boiler be setup for indirect DHW? And if so, does anyone have any picture examples? I know that the MegaSteam is well designed for indirect .. but it doesn't seem to be the case with the Intrepid.

    On page 2, tapping #15 is labeled "3/4-inch zone tapping". That's where you'd hook up your indirect supply. The return line from the indirect comes into the main return tapping.

    Depends on the indirect

    you'd simply choose one with 3/4" boiler connections, such as an Amtrol or Burnham unit. S/F's indirect has 1" connections.

    Related question for Steamhead

    With the new boiler (SF,etc) and indirect set-up: If you were to use this for a replacement system in and old (1923) single pipe system, what protection/procedures would you follow to clean up the pipe system to prevent old gunk from infecting the new components?  My worry is that the gunk in my wet returns would quickly waste a pump for the indirect and fill the indirect tank similarly.

    Flush out as much of the piping as you can

    and use a 3-piece bronze circ which will handle some gunk. Two popular ones are the B&G 100AB and the Taco 110B.

    Good Info.  Dave Stroman will be doing the work (though he doesn't know when, we talked a bit about future replacement a while back), so I'm sure he would recommend the same thing.  I just like to be informed.
