water on third floor

in Strictly Steam
I disconnected a radiator on the top floor shutting the valve. One day later when I reopened the valve it gave me about 2-3 cups of water.

can anyone explain this?

[just curious, the radiator is reconnected and working fine now]

    I am guessing you left the rad connected and just turned it off then back on. Did the water come out the stem?  If it did then the packing had dried up or is loose and the water had built up in the rad as the steam forced in and then cooled in the rad. The condensate could not make it back down as the steam had come so it gathered. Just a guess.

    thanks, in this case, the radiator was not connected, and I got the water when I opened the valve ??

    Water in the Radiator Lateral.

    I had something similar happen when I disconnected a radiator. In my case after the pipe with valve, was disconnected from the radiator, it dropped into the floor a bit and I think this formed  a pocket where the condensate could pool. I cracked the valve slightly with the idea of blowing out any debris and got water. However when I raised the pipe and reconnected it there weren't any problems nor were there any before I disconnected the radiator. Just a thought.

    I go with what Rod said.

    I would also say the radiator valve may have leaked out some when the heat was running and this allowed the air to come out and the condensate to collect.
