old vapor system

looks like you have an old trane vapor system, with an ancient vaporstat [i think] already in place to keep the pressures low. first, i would change the main vents for gorton#2's, and put a good low pressure gauge on the same pigtail as the controller. you can then verify the low pressures needed. next a copy of "the lost art of steam heating" so you can begin to understand how your system works, and why there are no vents on the rads.

just verify that the lwco works, and do a meter clocking, at the least, to show whether the burner is somewhat in adjustment.--nbc

It's a Trane Orifice Vapor system

and the orifices are cast into the convector elements. You need to keep the pressure real low with this system, to keep the steam out of the dry returns.



I'd vent the steam main faster than the dry return, to make sure the steam fills the main first before rising to the convectors.
